Surrendering to Fate: Navigating the Uncontrollable with Grace
Business Energy Radar by Banu Cetin
This week, the energy of Trait 30 – Fate is in the background, reminding us that life is not always what we expect it to be, but rather what we allow it to be. It teaches us that while we can set intentions, make plans, and pour our hearts into something, the outcome is never truly in our control. We ride the waves of life’s highs and lows, learning to surrender to what unfolds.
For me, this has been an especially personal and emotional week. We lost our beloved dog Dost (which means a true friend), a companion who had been part of our family for many years. We did everything we could to care for her in her last days, ensuring she was comfortable and surrounded by love. Yet, as much as we wished to hold on longer, fate had its own timing. And in the end, all we could do was trust that we had done our best and let go.
The Emotional Ride of Fate
Trait 30 is deeply connected to desire and the emotional intensity that comes with it. It fuels our longing for meaningful experiences—whether in relationships, work, or personal growth. But the challenge lies in the fact that while we can fully immerse ourselves in the experience, we cannot control the outcome.
Losing my dog was a stark reminder of this. I felt the deep yearning for more time, the wish that things could be different, yet also the understanding that fate had already decided, and we are all blessed with a defined time in our current form. She had lived a full, loving life, and while her absence is deeply felt, I am grateful for every moment we had together. She was the embodiment of pure friendship—always present, always loving, always showing what it means to just be with someone without expectation.
Doing Your Best and Trusting the Unfolding
This theme of fate and surrender extends into many areas of life, including business. So often, we put immense energy into projects, negotiations, or creative ideas, expecting a certain result. And while effort matters, the reality is that we are not the sole architects of the outcome.
We can launch a product, but we can’t force people to buy it.
We can apply for the perfect opportunity, but we can’t dictate whether we get selected.
We can nurture a relationship, but we can’t ensure how the other person will respond.
What we can do is show up fully. Give our best, act with integrity, and then—just like in life’s inevitable transitions—trust that whatever happens is part of the greater unfolding.
A Strategic Approach to Uncertainty
In business, embracing this perspective doesn’t mean being passive. It means learning to focus on what is within our control while letting go of attachment to a specific result. Instead of fixating on success or failure, we shift our mindset to continuous learning and adaptation.
Here are a few ways to apply this mindset:
- Detach from rigid expectations. Approach projects with curiosity rather than certainty.
- Balance ambition with adaptability. Set strong goals, but allow room for adjustments.
- Take the next step with clarity. Instead of worrying about the entire journey, focus on what can be done today.
- Recognize patterns. If a door isn’t opening, look for where energy is flowing instead.
By applying these principles, you allow for more innovation, resilience, and long-term success. The key is to act with intention and let go of resistance, trusting that the right opportunities will align at the right time.
